Album: Oakwood Hill v Ockley, Monday 14 July 2008

This cute village cricket ground, opposite the ancient Punch Bowl public house, was the delightful setting when Oakwood Hill entertained close rivals from the nearby village of Ockley. Oakwood Hill is situated less than half a mile from the Sussex/Surrey border with the stirring view of Leith Hill and the North Downs less than 5 miles away.

Having won a very exciting game in the last over against Ockley the previous week, Oakwood Hill looked forward to another close encounter and having won the toss, put their visitors in to bat. Early wickets fell in the first and second overs, and subsequently Ockley found it increasingly difficult to score runs. Their main contributors to a final score of 77 runs came from Jackie Bateman 21 and team-mate Heather 14.

For Oakwood Hill, Chris Foran took 4-38, Kay Price 4-18 and Linda Rivett 1-11. All the bowlers were ably supported by good fielding and some particularly fine catching from Sarah Reeves, Claire Brown and her young 13 year old daughter Jennifer.

Lacking their main strike bowler, Ockley struggled to contain the Oakwood Hill opening bats, Claire Brown (43) and Anna Gooch (25) who put on 75 runs for the first wicket in just 8 overs. Oakwood Hill passed the Ockley score soon after and ran out comfortable winners as the evening light ebbed away.
